Finally able to BLOG you all!

Hi Class,

Wow! It must have been the wild, windy weather and the time change, but for some reason every time I tried to BLOG my internet failed. So, it's coming late, but I finally got in, so here's your homework update:

1) You have some LARGE WHOLE NUMBER Work to do involving rounding and decimals. It's in your blue math duotang, Student Lesson #1.

2) You also have a little bit of French to do for Mlle. Elmhirst.

3) If you have any lights or props to add to our NORTH CAVAN ZOO Story Drama, bring it in to school tomorrow morning because tomorrow is our TECHNICAL RUN THROUGH. At the end of the day, we're also going to do the final set up ready for our FULL DRESS REHEARSAL Tuesday morning before our actual performance Tuesday afternoon. If any of your moms or dads have a video camera and would be able to video our production, that would be awesome, because my video camera does not seem to be functioning too well.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.

Smile!

Hi Class,

Hope you all gave your best grin for your school photo today! Smile!!!

Quick homework update...

1) Finish up your Rounding of Decimals Homework for tomorrow. Make sure your FAMILY reads your "Student Book Lessons" note in your Math duotang.

2) Be ready to hand in your "Why Classify?" Answers and Shape Tree Diagrams.

3) Keep working away on that VOCABULARY. You will have inclass time tomorrow morning, but remember it's due Friday. Make sure you're checking your GOAL SHEET for the GOALS you set for yourself!

4) Spirit Day is fast approaching and we, as the whole school LEADERS, have lots to do. So, maybe start considering using some of your recess times over the next couple days to finish up your Banners and practise your Cheers. Just make sure you have permission from a teacher, and it could be your Spirit Team Teacher, to do those things.

See you tomorrow all you wild ZOO animals!!!

Hi Class,

100% Tree Diagram Completion

Hi Class,

It was very impressive this morning during homework/planner checks that 100% of the students that were at school today had completed their TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE Tree Diagram. (Two people were absent.) Way to go!!

Well, here's a quick homework update:

1) WEDNESDAY is Spelling Day, so I hope you've spread the work out over the week for Spelling #6 and you've got those WORD FAMILIES AND PATTERNS down pat.

2) You've got 5 short rounding questions to do for tomorrow.

3) Keep working away on your VOCABULARY, which is due Friday. Re-evaluate your GOALS if you've chosen to do too many or could do more. Remember, QUALITY is important. So, less is more when you do a good job. For example, make sure the sentences you make up are not simple 3 word sentences.

4) Hot Dog order forms are due tomorrow.

I think I've covered it all.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.

Let's go WILD!!

Hi Class,

Wow! Cheers are coming along. Next week, each team will really have to work on WINNING THE BIG PRIZE, as Mrs. Kash talked to us about - Synchronized actions, strong voices, articulated words, and so on!! Represent you team well! Thanks also to Mrs. Kash who got us moving our bodies like the bunch of ZZZZOOOOOO ANIMALS we really are - Ha! Ha! HEEE! HEEEE! It's going to be great fun on Oct. 31st, but there is still lots to do!!

We can't forget to keep on top of all that "other" school work, so here is your homework update:

3) Work on your Vocabulary from your SQUIRT Spooky Story reading.

4) Keep working on your costume ideas for your Spirit Team. Remember, it may be BLACK AND ORANGE Day for the rest of the school, but you can focus on being both BLACK AND ORANGE and your ANIMALS, since you are the leaders. Pandas and Penguins already have some pretty funky ANIMAL GEAR!! Way to go!

Have a good weekend,

Mrs. A.

Mid October Mania

Hi Class,

It's really hard to believe it's mid-October already. I'm actually doing this homework blog a little late today because I had meetings after school. Soooo, I'll get right to it.

1) Make sure your rough copy paragraphs for your Brochure are done and on every other line so that tomorrow we can have a full English class of REVISING AND EDITING. Read the TRACKING SHEET very carefully! Step by step is the key!

2) September Yearbook pages are due tomorrow. Have fun putting your items in and think about the great things you've done already since starting grade 6 and all the great things you're still going to do this year.

3) Use the PROBLEM SOLVING MODEL to help you organize and communicate your solution thoroughly to the PICTURES, NUMBERS, WORDS homework problem from a week or so ago on pg. 34, #2 of your Math Text. (And, don't worry Rikki. You'll find your Math books tomorrow, so you'll be able to have another day or can finish it up at SQUIRT Time.)

4) October Reading Workshop GOAL SHEET is to be completed and signed by tomorrow.

Those are the most pressing items for tomorrow, so "one step at a time" and I'll see you tomorrow ready for another day of LEARNING!

Spirit Cheers are Sounding Great!

Hi Class,

Wow! I was so impressed with your Cheers on Friday! They are going to be awesome!! We still have some work to do in preparation for our "Welcome to the North Cavan ZOO!" Spirit Day on October 31st - meet with your Teacher & Staff Spirit Leaders, send out our flyers, get our "ZOO Food" Jar Guess ready, make some announcements, finish up a couple of posters, make our Team Banners, and prepare our Assembly - but I know that we are a GREAT GRADE 6 Team so we will succeed as long as we work together!!

As far as homework you need to focus on this weekend...

1) Write up your rough draft paragraphs for your Autobiographical Brochures. Be sure to read your TRACKING SHEET carefully. You can also write your Introduction and Conclusion. (Gordon's Introduction was a good sample, but we will discuss it further and do some Shared Writing together on Monday as well.)

2) Your September Yearbook pages are due on Tuesday. Just follow the Evaluation outline taped into the back of your Yearbook as a guide. I know that some items are not as plentiful for September as September was shorter and we were busy establishing routines, etc., but I think you will be able to pull together most of the items. (This will be taken into consideration when they are being marked.)

3) Don't forget, WEDNESDAY is Spelling DAY! So, don't leave it till Tuesday night, as you never know what other homework assignments you will have by then. Spread the work out. Don't leave it till the last minute!

4) Magazine Orders are due on Monday too, so help raise money for the school by getting some orders over the weekend.

I hope I haven't forgotten anything....

OH, DON'T FORGET to get your MATH Patterning Work reviewed and signed by your parents. Go through the questions again to continue your math learning. If you don't understand, work to do so by asking your family, friends, etc... to help you understand. Having lots of STUDY BUDDIES in your life with different strengths in different subject areas is a great learning tool.

See you Monday,

Mrs. A.

Oops!

Hi Class,

Oops! I just realized that I didn't do a homework blog yesterday. Sorry! I guess with all the Cross Country "stuff" and everything, it slipped my mind. By the way, CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR GRADE 6 RUNNERS!! Way to go!!!

Okay, so back to business - homework business - EEK!!

1) By the end of tonight, you should have carefully worked your way through Stage #1 - Pre-writing of your Autobiographical Brochure Tracking Sheet. Don't miss any steps and read very, very, very carefully!!!

2) For math, you had to do #1-5, page. 41-42 in your M6 Math Textbook and our TEST was postponed till Friday because of the Cross Country Meet.

3) Don't forget your Spelling #5.

4) Read your SPOOKY STORIES!!!

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.

Welcome Back!

Hi Class,

Well, I hope you didn't have too much turkey on the weekend - GOBBLE, GOBBLE! It certainly was absolutely gorgeous outside, though, so I hope you got outside a little to enjoy it! Marissa and Briana have beautiful leaves to prove they were out there. Take in all those colours now as it won't be long before the leaves have all fallen.

So, here's the homework update...

1) For tomorrow, you have some math to do. It really is review of whole numbers and the place value chart and different forms of numbers - standard form, expanded form and word form. It's just that the jump from grade 5 to 6 is that instead of just working in the 100 000s, you've moved up into the 1 000 000s. So, here it is: In your M6 Text, read "Connect" starting on page 36, then on pages 37 and 38, do #1-8. Be sure to use the place value chart we set up today to help you.

2) You should be ready for Spelling #4 tomorrow because you had a whole week to work on it. (Don't leave Spelling till the night before, as you never know what other homework you'll have.) So, just practice you words for tomorrow's test.

3) Finally, most of you are almost done Step #1 - The Pre-writing Stage - for your "Autobiographical Brochure", but now you have a Tracking Sheet that you are to use as a Checklist, which will help take you through this Writing Assignment Step by Step. The Goal Date is: Thurs.., Oct. 12th.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Class,

Yay! Everyone managed to submit their September Workshop so no one will be losing any marks for lateness! I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving weekend.

Long Weekend Homework includes:

1) September title page for your Yearbook.

2) Some math homework - Math Makes Sense 6 Textbook, page 34, #1-5.

3) Don't forget that WEDNESDAY is Spelling Day!

I hope I didn't forget anything!

See you Tuesday!

Mrs. A.

P. S. Don't worry about our Autobiographical Brochure. On your calendar it says it's due on Friday, but we really needed our English time these last few weeks to work through our September Reading Workshop, so we'll be extending that due date and be really focusing on Writing Workshop over these next few weeks. Now that you know the routine for Reading Workshop, we can put more emphasis on the Writing Workshop Process.

Workshop is due tomorrow!!

Hi Class,

Well, the big homework focus for tonight is really the September Reading Workshop, which is due tomorrow. Most of you are just about done anyway, so it's just a matter of pulling everything together - your title page, table of contents, etc... Be sure to use the checklist in your English Binder and check of each item as you put it together. Focus on math and spelling over the Thanksgiving weekend.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.

Wednesday is Spelling Day!

Hi Class,

Well, it's hard to believe we're already working on Spelling #4. Don't forget to review the Notebook Expectations for grade six. Some of you are slipping! Planner usage is slipping for some of you too. Organization is a very important learning skill! It has a big impact on your learning.

Here are our homework updates:

1) Find some of the meanings of the KEY WORDS in our next Math Unit #2 on Whole Numbers on page 31 of your math textbook. Use the glossary at the back of your text to help you. It's a very useful tool. Review KEY WORDS whenever you have extra time. Part of succeeding in math is knowing the LANGUAGE OF MATH.

2) September Reading Workshop is due Friday. Make sure you use your "Requirements" Checklist to put it together. Go through it step by step and once you've completed one step, check it off and move onto the next step.

3) Some of you did not get your DARE Letter signed for Constable Dawson. Do so as soon as possible.

4) Work on your Spelling #4 for next Wednesday. Do a little bit each day. Don't leave it till next Tuesday night.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.

Yay!! D.A.R.E. began today!

Hi Class,

Just a quick blog today as I really want to get caught up on responding to all your Reading Response Letters. It was so exciting to have Constable Dawson come in from the O.P.P. to start teaching us about Drug Abuse Resistance Education. He'll be coming in every Tuesday during our SSSH period, so on Tuesday H for Health will be the focus! Also, great job to Katie, Bayleigh, Mathew and Luke with their "Mambo #5" aerobic dance routine for our 20 Minute Work Out today! I know that we can all thank Sarah, our great Crestwood Co-op Student, for helping them prepare it for us. Thanks also to last week's group - Keegan, Kayla, Alexandra and Phillip - for leading us in their aerobic dance routine, "Cotton-Eyed Joe", as the warm-up. Can't wait to see what's in store for us for next Tuesday.

Homework update:

1) 3 Days left till September Reading Workshop is due. Just make sure you're finishing up on your letters and vocabulary. I'll help guide you through the rest of the expectations in the next couple of days.

2) WEDNESDAY is SPELLING DAY. Are you ready? Spelling #3!

3) Finally, don't forget to get your D.A.R.E. letter signed for Constable Dawson.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.

Welcome, October's Colours!!

Hi Class,

What a perfect "end of the day" today to get out and get started on our FOOTBALL unit for gym! The sun was out. The colours of fall were bursting. Thanks for your blog, Marissa. I don't think we'll be able to do Thanksgiving Art, but as we get closer to Halloween and our Spirit Day, we will preparing Spirit Group Banners, making some sets for our Spirit Assembly, and hopefully making some Spirit Day Art for our gym related to our Spirit Group Theme - "Welcome to the North Cavan ZOO!". I know it's going to be great, just like everyone's Yearbook Covers. They were AWESOME. We definitely have a group of very creative grade 6 students this year!! What a talented bunch!!

So, here's our homework update...

1) Wow, only 4 more days until our first English Reading Workshop is due. Be sure to review your goal sheet to see what you need to be finishing up. Is it letters? Is it vocabulary? Maybe it's the number of pages you planned to read of autobiographies and biographies? Don't forget, you can adjust your goals if you've set them too high or too low. Rem,ember...QUALITY is still much more important then QUANTITY! So, maybe do a little less, but make sure that what you do is done really well.

2) Don't forget WEDNESDAY is SPELLING DAY!! Are you ready? I hope you haven't left that till the last minute!!

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. A.
